At Benson Community School we work hard to deliver a curriculum that is engaging, exciting and inquiring. We teach all subjects through a ‘creative curriculum’; which means the learning across English, Maths, Science, Design and Technology, History and Geography are all linked by a common theme each half-term or term where possible. We call this a ‘Learning Journey’.
Benson is an Open Futures Flagship School. All children at Benson are given the opportunity to participate in a range of Open Futures activities –CookIt, AskIt, FilmIt and GrowIt. These four strands enrich our curriculum, as they are all designed to develop an enquiring mind, independent thinking and the life skills needed to be a global citizen in the 21st century.
There are opportunities for the children to go on educational visits, have visitors run workshops or perform for them in school and most importantly, for the children themselves to help lead the learning. Homework projects may be set for your child linked to their ‘Learning Journey’, so please support them in being as creative as they wish to be!
Each term, your child will bring home a leaflet that explains in more depth their topics for the forthcoming term . If you require any further information about what is taught at Benson please contact either Mrs Dennis or a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
In 2015 the new Computing Curriculum was launched with more emphasis on coding. The video below is a good example of why coding is so important.
