Back to School Life

Phase 1

Phase 1 consists of 3 Classes, 1 Nursery class and 2 Reception classes.

My name is Mrs Clarke, and I am the Assistant Head Teacher for Phase 1 at Benson Community School. I have responsibility for the youngest children in the school, aged from 2 – 5 years old.

I have taught Early Years children for 30 years, and joined Benson in 2009. Benson is a happy and lively school, where there is always something exciting going on!

Starting school is a big step in a child’s life, and we hope that you and your child will have a very positive experience of your time with us in Phase 1. This is just the beginning of their learning journey at Benson, where we lay the foundations for the children to develop into lifelong learners .Our children make fantastic progress during their time with us, and we are all so proud of their achievements!

Please do pop by to say hello, and I am always available to speak with you if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions.

The Early Year’s curriculum is split into 2 different areas:
Prime Areas:
* Personal, Social and Emotional Development
* Communication and Language
* Physical Development
Specific Areas:
* Literacy
* Numeracy
*Understanding the World
* Expressive Art and Design
These areas are addressed through providing a wide range of structured play and ‘real life’ activities, which encourage the children to work together and co-operate; applying many skills to solve problems.
These activities take place both in and out of doors. The ‘Outdoor classroom’ is available throughout the year, so please ensure your child’s clothing and footwear suit the weather.
We have an outline of topics we follow for each term. However, as we follow the children’s interests and learning, these may change throughout the year, or we may introduce a number of ‘mini-topics’ to match the children’s interests.
